Torridon School Street

Torridon School Street

As part of our COVID-19 response we have been working with Transport for London (TfL) to plan a safe and healthy return to school for pupils, parents, teachers and local residents. Over the last few weeks we have implemented the first phase of our School Streets programme across the borough.

Roads close to schools often have periods of the day that are busy with school traffic, causing road safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists that lead to congestion and poor air quality for all. The primary objective of this programme is therefore to help pupils and parents to socially distance at the school gates and to create a safer environment for travel to school on foot or by bicycle. However, we haven’t been able to deliver School Street closures to all the schools in the borough due to feasibility and funding constraints. Where this hasn’t been possible in the short term, but where the school have expressed support for the programme, we have looked at other temporary measures.

How will School Street pavement widening measures affect you?

So that we can still provide social distancing measures for children and parents at Torridon Primary School, we are proposing to widen the pavement area immediately outside of the school gates to create the space required.

The attached plan shows the extent of pavement area on Torridon Road and Hazelbank Road that will be extended using water filled barriers to allow greater space for social distancing.

For further details on the School Street pavement widening Programme please see the commonplace website, where there are a series of Frequently Asked Questions (link provided below).
