Kilmorie School Street

Kilmorie School Street

Roads close to schools often have periods of the day that are busy with school traffic, causing road safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists, congestion, and poor air quality for all.

The primary objective of this programme is to create a safer environment for travel to school on foot and by bicycle, by implementing a short timed restriction at school drop off and pick up times.

School Streets have many additional benefits such as improving the air quality at the school gates, encouraging daily routines that incorporate exercise and helping to reduce the impact of the school run for those that live in the immediate vicinity of the school gates.

How will a School Street affect you?

The attached plan shows the proposals for the school near to your home including the times of operation and School Street closure point(s) for Kilmorie School. Due to the school using entrances on both Kilmorie Road and Elsinore Road there are two types of closure. School Street restrictions are managed in various ways determined by the road layout and circumstances at each location.

Kilmorie Road will restrict non exempted vehicular access from entering the road at the junction of Woolstone Road to the junction of Vancouver Road between 8.15 to 9.15am and 2.45 to 3.45pm on school days during term time only. The boundary point will be supported by signage advising the times of the zone restrictions, and advanced warning signage will also be in place.

Elsinore Road will be closed using signage and temporary barriers managed by the school.

Kilmorie Road timed restriction will be managed using an Automatic Number Plate Recognition camera restricting access in to the road from Woolstone Road.

A No Entry section of road has been installed at the junction of Kilmorie Road and Vancouver Road. This is operational all day, every day.

Exemptions permits are available for residents who live within the camera enforced zone, however we would encourage you to avoid using your vehicle during the hours of the School Street operation, if possible, to maximise the benefits of the scheme.

For further details on this School Street please see the commonplace website, where there are a series of Frequently Asked Questions (link provided below).

What happens next?

You are invited to comment on how the restriction is going in your experience and this will be monitored closely. You may also send emails to schoolstreets@lewisham.gov.uk .

If an urgent issue arises, you can also contact the council switch board on 020 8314 6000

Please note that if you live within a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) and already have a CPZ permit, you will still have to apply for a School Street permit. A parking permit does not automatically allow access in to the School Street during the closure period.
